Space, Not war! – Call to Action

SPACE, NOT WAR!

A Space Renaissance International Call to Action

The status of our Civilization is extremely critical. Our Mother planet has become very small, interdependent and currently supports 7,3 billions human beings, and growing. Humans should collaborate fairly in competing to secure Civilization in order to continue existing and progressing, in peace and freedom. Nowadays, unfortunately, the forces of destruction seem to be prevailing, death counts are rising, on the many war and social fronts, and a tremendous economic crisis has been devastating our lives for almost seven years.

We humanists keep an accurate accounting of each wasted human life, including those killed by terrorists, the people killed by bombs and drones, and the hundreds who find death in the middle of the sea, while trying to escape from war.

In this scenario, we see that, in few months, the death projects are raising huge sponsor funds, and we see thousands of well armed, military trained, young boys and girls — the future of humanity — thrown into death’s horrible path. Let’s think about how it is difficult, in comparison, to raise sponsorship for life-affirming projects, e.g. to develop a fully reusable orbit vehicle prototype, or for cultural initiatives: conferences, art events, technical or social projects, where people can be made aware of the dangers they are running, and how they could contribute to mitigating the risk.

Where are the death funds coming from?

Why it is not so easy to raise life funds?

And, why do governments today spend Tens of Billions (Dollars or Euros) through their space agencies, but almost none of this is used to reduce the cost of traveling to space? Even just a few % of this could rapidly improve access to space. The precedent of air travel, which supports about 100 Million jobs around the world, suggests that space travel could also create tens of Millions of new jobs – exactly what the world economy needs – and the FAA and CAA reports show that the civil aviation industry knows how to bring this about.

War and violence against each other are vestiges of the human past. It is not necessary – and, in fact, is counter-productive – to carry them with us into the future. It is now evident that to expand the Civilization into space is the true moral issue of this time, and we — the world-wide space community — shall be committed to support this highly humanist goal.

The death promoters may call us cowards, since we refuse to fight, but we, instead, choose to accelerate the evolutionary effort of our monoplanetary Civilization to a spacefaring Civilization. When in a house the food is scarce, the true coward is the one who takes up a weapon against brothers and children! The truly courageous, then, is the one who dares to go outside, to obtain resources for the whole family!

So we want these words to ring out, everywhere on our planet: “SPACE, NOT WAR!”

We call all sincere humanists, and all of the space advocacy associations in every country, to join the Space Renaissance in this campaign, and to work together for a great world event, to be held in 2016, where a space act can be approved and delivered to all of the peace-loving governments and international institutions.

Our goal is to boost the space revolution, that can generate millions new jobs, silence weapons, and propel rockets toward a new horizon!

As a short-term agenda, we solicit general commitment at all levels: public and private investments, as well as money and in personal effort, to the following areas, at least:

  • Development of sub-orbital tourism, vehicles and infrastructures (spaceports)
  • Development of fully reusable orbit vehicles
  • Development of space tourism, orbital hotels, accomodations, workshops, yards
  • Development of the industrialization of the geo-lunar space region
  • Recovering of the the Earth Orbit space debris
  • Development of research and mining settlements on the Moon
  • Development of research and mining settlements on Near Earth Asteroids
  • Development of space based solar power plants
  • Development of a new big space station with artificial gravity in a Lagrange Libration Point, using lunar and asteroids raw materials
  • Human exploration of Mars and the Asteroids Belt
  • Adoption of friendly policies toward civilian astronautics, industry and commerce, with tax discounts and grants to astronautic enterprises
  • Creation of International Space Investment Funds, to allow savers and investors to invest their money in the opening of the Space Frontier
